To Assist In the Restoration of Streets and Sidewalks, Temple Terrace Needs Grant Assistance

AN ACT OF TERROR IN THE TEMPLE — Temple Terrace's roads, sidewalks, and other infrastructure will benefit from the release of federal funds, which will help sidewalk the way for improvements to be made to these areas. On June 22, the Hillsborough County Commission gave its approval to an agreement that would provide the city with cash from the Community.

Development Block Grant program in the amount of slightly more than $500,000 for the purpose of constructing and designing infrastructure upgrades in neighborhoods with low to moderate incomes. The agreement would be used to improve the quality of life in these neighborhoods.

A formula that is designed to assist sustainable urban communities in the provision of good housing, an environment that is fit for living and increased economic possibilities is used to administer the grants that are provided by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. These grants are distributed according to a formula.

Sidewalk Construction

The grant money, which is not to exceed $502,781, will be used for the purpose of repairing sidewalks and resurfacing roadways. This will be done in a large percentage of the grant money.

The first phase of the project, which will include the following components, is anticipated to receive around 255,000 dollars, according to the estimates that have been provided.  Making repairs to the sidewalks at the intersection of Whiteway Drive and North 53rd Street, which is situated just to the west of North 64th Street

It is proposed that North 52nd Street be resurfaced, commencing at Mission Hills and going all the way to University Square Drive. Constructing new sidewalks at East 113th Avenue between North 53rd and North 56th streets, where there is only one walkway on one side of the road, and at North 54th Street from E. Serena Drive to the dead end, where there are no walkways on either side of the street. Both of these locations are situated in areas with a lack of sidewalks.

The following components will be included in the second phase of the sidewalk project, which will have a total cost of $232,680 on account of its components:

  •  The replacement of water mains and service laterals that are getting on in years on North 53rd Street between Mission Hills Avenue and East 98th Street. Service laterals are pipes that connect homes and businesses to the public water and wastewater systems.

  • The project includes several different tasks, including the resurfacing of Blane Drive between North 52nd Street and Overlook Drive, the installation of bicycle pavement markings on Serena Drive between the city limits and North 56th Street, and the rehabilitation of pavements on Mission Hills and North 52nd Street between the city limits and North 56th Street.

  • The amount of time anticipated to be necessary for the necessary repairs and enhancements is one year. The conditions of the agreement stipulate that fifty percent of the grant funds must be spent by the 31st of January, and the remaining grant funds must be utilized by the 31st of July, 2024. This has to be done in order to comply with the terms of the agreement.

  • Because of its urban cooperation with Hillsborough County, Temple Terrace is qualified to receive funding from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program on a yearly basis. This will allow the community to serve its residents better.
